China lashes out at Trump's trade policy

The trade policies of US President Donald Trump has been slammed by China which says the measure of ‘extortion’ won’t work.

In an unusually personal attack, Chinese state media on Monday lashed out at Trump’s policies and sought to reassure investors worried about China’s economy as growth concerns rattled its financial markets.

The latest criticism from the overseas edition of the ruling Communist Party’s People’s Daily newspaper singled out Trump, saying he was starring in his own “street fighter-style deceitful drama of extortion and intimidation”.

“Governing a country is not like doing business,” the paper said, adding that Trump’s actions imperilled the national credibility of the United States.

The criticism is coming after an order made by the United States to reduce oil imports from Iran was rejected by China.

According to Bloomberg news agency, which cited two officials familiar with the negotiations, Beijing, however, agreed not to increase purchases of Iran’s crude.

Recall that President Hassan Rouhani of Iran had earlier warned the US against any attempt to stop Tehran’s oil trade.
