China, US negotiate over seized underwater drone

A potential diplomatic war between two World Powers may just have been averted after Chinese authorities informed that they are in touch with US officials over a seized US Navy unmanned underwater drone.

The Chinese foreign ministry squealed that much information in a one sentence comment offering no further details concerning the crux of negotiations.

“According to [our] understanding, the US and Chinese sides are working on appropriately handling this matter through channels between the two militaries,” China’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

The underwater drone was seized by China on Thursday about 50 nautical miles northwest of Subic Bay off the Philippines triggering a formal diplomatic protest and a demand for its return by U.S. officials.
