Coach of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, Paul Aigbogun has assured that his team cannot afford to fail at the U-20 FIFA World Cup which has kicked off today (Thursday) in Poland.
The Aigbogun team are going for historic triumph at the youth tournament, having reached the final twice and failing to win the gold.
They will begin their campaign on Friday when they battle their counterparts from Qatar.
“We have a tough history to match. Silver medals on two occasions and bronze medal once, and a number of quarter-final appearances,”Aigbogun told thenff.com ahead of the game.
“That’s why we must start very well, by taking the points against Qatar and then march on with confidence and self-assurance.
“We are flying the flag of nearly 200 million Nigerians, as well as that of the African continent. We have put a lot of work into building a squad that will make Nigeria and Africa proud.”
The Flying Eagles were runners-up in the 1989 and 2005 editions of the competition.
The team will take on Qatar in their opening match of Group D at the Tychy Stadium, before battling Ukraine and the USA in their other group matches.
The game with Qatar kicks off at 5pm Nigeria time.
