COLLAPSED BUILDING: Residents want govt to ban high-rise buildings
Residents of Ita-faji have called on the Lagos State government to discourage construction of houses beyond three storeys.
The plea came in hours after a three-storey building collapsed at Ita Faji, Lagos Island on Wednesday after over 100 pupils in a school on the ground floor were trapped, while at least 9 were reported dead.
Residents who spoke with journalists about the increasing number of lives that had been lost to such collapse in the past, made an appeal to the government to discourage churches and school owners in the area from using high-rise buildings as base for operations.

“The building has been marked for demolition, but the government officials always take a bribe. The building has been giving signs of weakness but whenever government officials come, the owner always bribes them.
“The owners always boast they have people in government that they can bribe to overlook the proposed demolition of the building” one of the residents disclosed.
