Gov Wike threatens Agip

All may not be well with the finances of Rivers State, as Governor Nyesom Wike on Friday, suspended the state Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Fred Kpakol and the Accountant General of the State, Sir Abere Dagogo.

The suspension of the two leading figures in the finances of the state has raised fears that something untoward may have happened.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued by Wike’s Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, in Port Harcourt.

According to the statement, the suspension is with immediate effect.

The statement was however silent on the reason for their suspension, fuelling beliefs that the two officials were sent home to allow for further investigation into their dealings.

The action of the governor is coming barely two weeks after the Supreme Court upturned the judgments of the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal that nullified his election.
