Akwa United on Saturday began their quest to win the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup on a bright note after securing a 1-0 win against Vita Club de Mokanda in Pointe-Noire, Congo.

The home team fired from all angle from the blast of the whistle but Akwa United goalkeeper, Olufemi Kayode, was on alert to save all their efforts before new-signing, Ubong Ekpai, scored the only goal of the match in the 37th minutes to silent the crowd at the Stade Municipal de Pointe-Noire.

Akwa United defender, Samuel Okon was sent off late into the game but the Nigeria Federation Cup champions fought to the end and ran away with the victory.

Akwa United will play hosts to Vita Club at the Nest of Champions, Uyo in a fortnight.
