In a thrilling encounter at the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, African champions, Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw by Asian champions, Australia on Thursday.
The result leaves both sides close to exit from the eight-team tournament.
The Indomitable Lions, who were beaten in their first group game by Chile, scored their first goal of the competition when Andre Zambo brilliantly slotted in the opener on the stroke of half time.
The Hugo Broos’ men missed a spectacular chance to double their lead about 10 minutes into the second half, before a penalty was given to Australia after Alex Gersbach was brought down inside the box, and captain Mark Milligan equalised on the hour mark.
Cameroon will now face Germany in their final group game in Sochi on Sunday while Australia play Chile at the same time in Moscow.
For a place in the semifinals, the African champions have to beat the reigning world champions and hope other results go their way.
