CONFEDERATIONS CUP: Ronaldo scores in Portugal's touch win against Russia

World Best Player Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal, and winner as Euro champions Portugal edged past hosts Russia at the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup in Moscow on Wednesday.

The goal, which was headed in at the 8th minute of the game, was Ronaldo’s 74th international goal and he has now scored in every competition he has played in.

A win for Russia would have seen them clinch a semifinal ticket in the eight-team tournament, but the first half header helped to put Portugal near qualification for the last four stage of the competition.

The hosts dominated the second half as they made several changes to strengthen their forward, but their struggles to make at least a point from the game were to no avail, as they just couldn’t make it through
the Portugal defence.

The Euro champions are temporary at the top of Group A on four points, having picked up a 2-2 draw in their first match against Mexico.

The other group clash comes up later on Wednesday, between Mexico and New Zealand, as the hunt for semifinal place continues.
