Confirmed! Police has a new IGP

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mohammed Adamu as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).

He was appointed on Tuesday afternoon after outgoing IGP, Ibrahim Idris, led him to the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Idris addressed journalists at the State House after the meeting disclosing the new development.

Adamu thanked President Buhari for his appointment and promised to re-strategise to effectively tackle kidnapping and other security challenges in the country.

Adamu had earlier in the morning met with the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari, at the time Idris was performing his last official duty at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The eventual appointment of Mohammed as IGP brings to an end calls from different quarters on President Buhari not to extend Idris’ tenure which expired onTuesday.
