Conflicting tales as Gov Bello ends up with crutches

The Governor of Kogi State was on Tuesday seen on crutches when he attended the meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While it was clear that the governor must have had an accident, different tales of the extent of his injuries have however trailed the incident.

An eyewitness report claimed that Governor Bello on Friday, while rising in a BMW car, said to be smaller than his usual SUV, had opened the car door at Old Market in Lokoja while the vehicle was in motion and attempted to stand up and spray money to people.

He was said to have fallen from the car hurting his two arms and left foot in the process.

The report went further to explain that the car dragged the governor for some metres before he was rescued through the efforts of some people and his security details.

Following the incident, it was learnt that Governor Bello was not available to receive the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, at Government House, as he was said to have been immediately rushed to a private hospitals in Abuja for treatment.

Dogara was in Lokoja for the burial of late Mr. Buba Jibril, the Deputy Majority Leader.

But in a statement by the Director–General, Media and Publicity to the governor, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the state government denied the eyewitness report.

According to Fanwo, the accident and injury was not as serious as what was trending on social media and other news platforms as reported by the said eyewitness.

He said: “We wish to refute rumours that the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, is either hospitalised or incapacitated.

“The governor missed his footing last Friday, March 30, while alighting from a vehicle and injured his left foot. He was treated by his doctors, who bandaged the leg and discharged him.

“We thank Governor Bello’s supporters and well-wishers who reached out to us to inquire after his wellbeing. His Excellency is doing very well and will be at work as usual after the Easter holidays.

“Once again, the governor sends his best wishes to Kogites for the Easter season and beyond.”
