Tavecchio hints Chelsea boss Conte could return as Italy coach

Antonio Conte has hinted that he could opt to start Cesc Fabregas for Chelsea’s trip to Arsenal on Saturday evening after his two-goal haul in midweek.

The Spaniard played the full game and scored twice in extra-time as Chelsea came from two goals down to earn victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night and book their place in the fourth round of the League Cup.

Fabregas has seen his first-team opportunities in the Premier League somewhat limited under new boss Conte so far this season.

But Conte has insisted that he only makes his team selection based on searching for a win and refused to rule out starting Fabregas at The Emirates on Saturday.

Speaking at his post match news conference at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, Conte was asked directly if Fabregas could start at the weekend.

He replied: “All the players in my squad have the possibility to play against Arsenal.

“There are three days before the game and they have the opportunity to show me during the training sessions, to have a good shape, and convince me to put them in the line-up.

“I want to win. My choice is done to win. I don’t care what the surname is. It’s important when I call someone to play to show me my choice is not wrong.”
