The Leader of the Presidential Technical Team deployed to Kano State to support the state committee on COVID-19 response, Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, said on Sunday the ‘mysterious’ mass deaths in the state were caused by COVID-19.

The team was mandated by President Muhammadu Buhari to unravel the real cause of the reported unprecedented daily deaths in the state.

Gwarzo, who disclosed this to journalists during the handing over of the mobile testing laboratory donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to the state government, said numerous tests carried out by the medical team had established the fact that COVID-19 was responsible for the deaths in the state.

This contradicts the state government’s version which claimed the deaths were nothing out of the ordinary, and were due to some common illnesses like diabetes.

But Gwarzo said: “Let me inform us that, most of the deaths recorded of recent and test carried out showed that coronavirus is the cause. So before the final reports which would be ready in the next one week or few days, it is necessary for people of Kano to wake up from their slumber that this is a serious issue.
