Controversy trails 180-day suspension of Ekiti lawmaker

The Ekiti State House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended one of its lawmakers, Gboyega Aribisogan, for a total of 180 days, for alleged anti party activities.

The lawmaker, representing Ikole Constituency 1 was removed for alleged anti-party activities, as he was said to have been hobnobbing with members of the opposition in the state.

Aribisogan, a member of the PDP was subsequently dropped from his position as Chairman of the House Committee on Information and replaced with Samuel Omotoso, member representing Oye Constituency 1.

This has however thrown up several controversies, as watchers and Aribisogan’s supporters have raised posers over the action of the House, which they say has gone beyond its purview.

Aribisogan who denied the allegations, has also vowed to contest the decision of the House, even as posers are being raised as to the propriety of the House to punish a member, for a party affair, knowing full well he represents a constituency made up of members of different parties.

Speaker of the House, Rt Hon, Kola Oluwawole, who affirmed the suspension of Hon. Aribisogan, said he has been warned to stay away from the state assembly complex within the period of his suspension
