Cop who killed, buried senior colleague over N300,000 dismissed
The Ekiti Police Division has dismissed a police corporal attached to its unit, Daramola Tosin, from the Force for allegedly killing an inspector, Mr. Lateef Shuaib over the sum of N300,000.
Reports say Tosin gunned down Shuaib after the latter secretly withdrew the sum of N300,000 from the former’s bank account.
Tosin said he gave Shuaib his ATM card when he was ill so he could help withdraw money to buy drugs while in hospital which he did for the father of two.
The dismissed police corporal said he was later shocked to discover that his friend who he entrusted his ATM card with had secretly withdrawn the sum of N300,000 from his account without informing him.
An angered Tosin reportedly chided his friend for his deeds but later shot Shuaib in the head with an AK-47 machine gun while he was defecating and buried his victim at the back of a police barracks.
After days without seeing her brother, the victim’s sister, Sherifat Hammed reported his disappearance at the Osi Police Station on May 10, 2016 saying she suspected her brother’s friend Tosin because her brother had told her that he was in custody of the suspects ATM card.
Mr. Sam Okaula, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, said an investigation into the matter was carried out when the case was reported and the suspect who was later arrested confessed to the crime and was subsequently dismissed from the Police Force.
“We do not condone crime. We go after anyone including members of the Force who go out of their way to commit crime. We will investigate and prosecute them if found culpable and ensure we gain conviction. This particular dastardly act will not be an exception.”
Toyin was arraigned before an Ilorin magistrate’ court and when the case was called up, the  prosecutor, Inspector James Odaodu, said the offence of murder was capital in nature, but the magistrate, Mr. Nurudeen Adeyanju, who did not take the plea of the accused, said his court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter since it was a murder charge while ordering that the suspect be remanded at the Federal Prison, Mandalla.
The court magistrate, Mr. Adeyanju however adjourned the case for further hearing until June 21, 2016.
