The police in Kenya have identified the lone gunman whhttps://www.ripplesnigeria.com/?p=107880&preview=trueo attacked a school in the northern part of the country, killing no less than seven victims, six of which were school children, as a 17-year-old student who was expelled from the same school.

According to the police, the expelled student who shot dead six of his former schoolmates and a security guard before he was lynched by a furious mob, is one of thousands of refugee children who have been living in Kenya and going to school there since civil war broke out in their country in 2013.

“The Lokichogio school was not attacked by bandits but an errant student on expulsion for disciplinary cases,” regional government official Wanyama Musyambohe told reporters.

Another account by security operatives revealed that the assailant, whose name has not been disclosed, had been arrested, but then killed by a mob while in police custody.

“The attack … is a painful reminder of the state of insecurity along the border,” tweeted Turkana county governor Josphat Nanok.

Reports say the nothern region of the country is awash with guns due to its proximity to unstable neighbours including Somalia, where al Qaeda-linked militants have been fighting to topple the government.
