One week, two dramas: Who will save Okorocha from himself?

Like the Hausa and Yoruba tribes that have newspapers in their languages, the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha is to present an all Igbo newspaper, Ikoro.

The publication to be funded by the state government, will cover the five South-East states and other Igbo-speaking parts of the country,

According to Dr Samfo Nwankwo, Special Adviser to Okorocha on Igbo Affairs, the newspaper to be presented on March 15, is part of moves to ensure that the Igbo language does not go extinct

“The fact that Igbo language is going extinct, which is a dangerous development is behind the move. If nothing is done to arrest the situation, we will have identity crisis. We felt attention should be paid to the reading of Igbo language, which is part of our culture. It is time for us to go back to our roots and be proud of our language,” he said.

He also revealed that the state government will soon make the learning and teaching of Igbo language in all schools in Imo State compulsory up to first and second years in higher institutions.

Nwankwo who spoke in Lagos noted that this will be backed by the “Development of Igbo Language Law 9 of the Imo State House of Assembly.’’

How do you describe a man who thinks the guy next door is as idiotic as he is? When he is not erecting an xmas tree, he is busy naming a state-owned structure after his daughter , father or wife. Now he chooses to deceive those who must be hood-winked into his next political gamble. Where is the Statesman? Not sure this venture is built on any sound business model, except selfishness. And, to imagine that the meagre earnings of Ndi Imo would be wasted on this. Owelle Ndigbo! Hahahaha!!

well, i think the man has a point, many languages in this country have gone extinct. so it may not be a bad idea to have an igbo newspaper. many kids can not even speak their native languages, no thanks to parents who think its ‘bush’ to speak such.
