Again, Gov Wike raises the alarm, says IGP Idris wants to raid his Abuja house

Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has vowed that the state government under his leadership would never be part of the Police probe panel to investigate offences in the December 10 rerun elections that left many dead including policemen.

He aslo said that the the people of River State are not going to be party to the Police probe panel, querying why the Police who purportedly masterminded the killings in Rivers would turn around to investigate what happened during the elections.

The Police had announced that it was going to investigate events of the Rivers State rerun elections in which it was itself accused of commiting all kinds of mayhem.

Part of what Police said it will investigate includes the purported voice of Wike in an audio tape threatening an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official to rig the election for his party.

But Wike speaking during a victory thanksgiving mass of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Our Lady Chaplaincy of the Catholic Institute of West Africa, Port Harcourt on Sunday for the party’s success in the elections, argued that the said probe was nothing but a predetermined scheme to indict PDP members.

He said, “We are not a party to their so-called panel. We have passed that stage and we cannot fall into the trap of a panel of inquiry. After killing our people, you want us to assist you unravel what? It is the police that killed our people.

“If it was a country that believed in its image, so many people would have lost their jobs. They cannot ask themselves why 28,000 policemen, yet to be ascertained number of soldiers, Police dogs and horses, gunboats and helicopters could not police ordinary legislative elections.

“It is because the police were the ones committing the fraud, violence and election materials snatching. We are accusing the police of mass murder and they turn around to set up a panel of inquiry.

“After killing our people, you fraudulently set a panel of inquiry. Up till now, they don’t know that we are far ahead. This panel is a mere booby trap to indict PDP members. If they cared about lives, they wouldn’t do what they did.”

According to Wike, it was worrisome that the Police would want to investigate what happened during the rerun elections, when it was one of the interested parties in the efforts to subvert the will of the people.

He wondered how police would be talking about investigation when the Police High Command refused to prosecute the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains caught on camera allegedly printing fake result sheets ahead of the elections.
