Court detains 25-yr-old ‘okada’ rider for raping 7-yr-old niece

An Ogba Magistrate’s Court has ordered the detention of a 25-year-old commercial motorcyclists identified as Itoro Udoh for raping his elder brother’s seven-year-old daughter.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, the offence committed by Udoh contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

While in court, the charge against the suspect read thus; “That you, Itoro Udoh, on January 15, 2019, at 3am, in Yaba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile a seven-year-old girl, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

A remand application was also tendered at the court by the prosecutor detailing how Udoh (who was arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command) allegedly committed the offence.

After listening to the prosecutor, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, the presiding magistrate, however did not take the plea of the defendant.

Before adjourning the case till April 8, 2019, the presiding magistrate however ordered that Udoh be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
