Another suspect captured over his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh carnage that left nearly 3,000 people dead has been handed a death sentence by a court in India.

The convict identified as Yashpal Singh was handed the death sentence by Additional Sessions Judge Ajay Pandey on Tuesday while another convict Naresh Sherawat bagged a life sentence for murder, rioting and other charges.

Reports say the pair were convicted last week of killing Hardev Singh and Avtar Singh, two men in their 20s, during the riots.
