A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the arrested of chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Mahmood Yakubu, for failing to appear before it.

The court, presided over by Justice Stephen Pam, handed down the arrest order after Professor Yakubu failed to appear before it for the third time, asking the police to effect his arrest immediately.

It would be recalled that the judge had ordered the INEC boss on July 5 to appear before him to show why he should not be committed to prison for contempt of court as he ruled on a preliminary objection filled by Mahmood and INEC in a contempt proceeding filed by Ejike Oguebego and Chuks Okoye, Chairman and Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, respectively.

The INEC boss has however failed to honour the court’s order to appear before it.
