Court orders arrest of police witness in Seun Egbegbe's fraud case

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the arrest of a police officer identified as Bello Abubakar, who is listed as the first prosecution witness in the case of serial fraudster Seun Egbegbe.

Justice Oguntoyinbo who issued a bench warrant ordered that Abubakar be produced before her on October 11 to continue his testimony in the case of Egbegbe, a film maker who was charged with serial frauds involving N39, 098,100, $90,000 and £12,550.

The trial judge had ordered the arrest of Abubakar after he failed to appear in court to the judge’s displeasure with Innocent Anyigor, the police prosecutor, telling the judge that the police officer (Abubakar) had gone out of jurisdiction, and efforts to bring him to court proved abortive.

Justice Oguntoyinbo while ruling on the case which had been filed before her since February, reiterated that Abubakar must be brought before her on October 11. The judge also directed that the fifth defendant gets a counsel before the next adjourned date.

Egbegbe who has now spent nine months behind-bars at Ikoyi prison is standing trial alongside his accomplice Ayomide, Lawal Kareem, Olalekan Yusuf and Muyideen Shoyombo.

The Ebony Films Productions boss and his accomplice Ayomide were both arrested early this year for defrauding no less than 30 Bureau De Change operatives at Gbagada in Lagos, between 2015 and 2017 of various sums of monies both in local and foreign currencies.
