A magistrate court sitting in Katsina has ordered the detention of two friends Hassan Ibrahim, 50 and Adamu Idris, 60, for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

The pair who are both residents of Unguwar kasha Village in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State were detained on the orders of senior magistrate, Falila Dikko.

Reports say the matter was brought to the notice of the police when the victim’s elder brother, Sirajo Aminu reported it at Kafur Divisional Police Station on November 10, 2017.

The suspects who were also accused of being responsible for their victim’s seven months’ pregnancy also faced charges of criminal conspiracy and rape, which the police said are contrary to sections 97 and 283 of the Penal Code.

While addressing the court, Inspector Sani Ado, the police prosecutor, told the court that investigation on the matter was still in progress and pleaded for an adjournment of the case.

The police prosecutor told the court that the accused “criminally conspired and forcefully had sexual intercourse with the victim, 17 years, of the same address. As a result, she is now seven months’ pregnant.”

After listening to the police prosecutor, the case was adjourned by the senior magistrate who directed that the duo should be remanded in the prison custody till January 24, 2018 when the case will come up for further hearing.
