Security agents found $1.7m cash in Maina’s Niger Republic home

Twenty three properties said to belong to a former chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Mr Abdulrasheed Maina, have been temporarily handed over to the federal government.

A Federal High Court in Abuja , presided over by Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo, gave the order of interim forfeiture of the 23 properties on Tuesday.

The ruling was sequel to a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency had asked the court to order the temporary forfeiture of the properties.

The motion was supported by a 30-paragraph affidavit which the EFCC brought pursuant to Section 17 of the Money Laundering Act.

In his ruling, the trial judge granted the prayers of the anti-graft agency.

It also granted the commission’s prayer for an order of the court to publish an advert on the properties in a national daily, to enable anyone who has any reason why they should not be finally forfeited to the federal government to come forward and prove same.

The judge then ordered the anti-graft agency to return to the court on November 19, for the mention of the case.
