Court orders probe of Patience Jonathan’s demolished property

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the relevant agencies to probe the alleged demolition of the Abuja property, linked to the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.

The property was reportedly demolished by the Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is said to have earlier initiated proceedings before the court for the temporary forfeiture of the demolished building to the Federal Government.

But Chief Mike Ozekhome, acting for the Registered Trustees of Aruera Reachout Foundation/Women For Change and Development Initiative, filed an objection to the EFCC motion.

The building, which belonged to Aruera Reachout Foundation/Women For Change and Development Initiative, is a non-governmental organisation and Mrs Jonathan’s pet project.

Ozekhome had in his objection to the motion told the presiding judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, that the property had been demolished by an agency of the government.

Following this, Justice Dimgba said the court could not act without first ascertaining whether or not the property in question had been destroyed.

“I will adjourn for the claim that the property has been demolished to be ascertained to enable the court to know what proper steps should be taken,” Justice Dimgba said.

Consequently, the judge adjourned till February 26 for the report of the probe and possible hearing of the applications filed by parties involved in the matter.
