The Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, Adamawa, on Friday quashed an earlier judgement by the election petitions tribunal nullifying the elections of two lawmakers representing Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas in the state House of Assembly.

The appellate court in its ruling restored Musa Umar Bororo and Shuaibu Langaga to the state House of Assembly.

Bororo was dragged to court after he won his election over alleged use of forged primary school certificate.

He was accused of using Bororo, a nickname, as an official name.

However, Justice Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa, who presided over the case, said a nickname is something anyone can bear and be known by as one’s name.

She reiterated that the use of a nickname as part of one’s official name should not be a basis to nullify the person’s election.

While reacting after the judgment, Bororo said “the judgment was unbiased to all parties. I lost at the tribunal and the Appeal Court gave me back my mandate. This is to say that justice is undeniable if you are honest.”

The court also restored the mandate of Langaga who was earlier accused of using fake primary school certificate as all witnesses were in court and proved that his certificate was genuine.
