Chief Femi Fani-Kayode on Tuesday pleaded not guilty before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on accusation of allegedly laundering N4.9 billion.

The court will on July 1 hear his bail application.

The spokesman of former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation, has remained in EFCC custody in the last 50 days and was among those who unequivocally criticised the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress’ (APC’s), government.

He was arraigned alongside Nenadi Usman, ex-Minister of Finance, Danjuma Yusuf and a company, Joint Trust Dimension Nig. Ltd. They were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on a 17-count charge bordering on unlawful use, unlawful retention and unlawful payment of money to the tune of N4.9 billion.

The prosecutor, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court after their arraignment that he was prepared to proceed with the trial at any date of adjournment.

Justice Sule Hassan, in a short ruling, adjourned the case to July 1 for hearing of the bail applications.

Last Tuesday’s scheduled arraignment of Mr. Fani-Kayode was stalled due to absence of the trial Judge, Sule Hassan.
