Court sends Fayose ally Agbele to Kuje Prison
A close ally of Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, Mr. Abiodun Agbele, has been ordered remanded at the Kuje Prison, Abuja by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, in his ruling, ordered that Agbele be kept in prison custody until Thursday when he will rule on his bail application.
Agbele was charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on 11 count charges bordering on money laundering.
He was arraigned alongside three companies, Sylvan Mcnamara Limited, De Privateer Limited and Spotless Investment Limited.
He however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The EFCC also claimed that other suspects in the case, including a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, Lt. AO Adewale and one Olalekan Ogunseye, the sole signatory to the account of Sylvan Mcnamara Limited, were still at large.
After the arraignment on Wednesday, Agbele’s lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), moved his client’s bail application, urging the judge to grant it in liberal terms.
The prosecution counsel, Johnson Ojogbane, however prayed the court to dismiss the bail application.
It would be recalled that Agbele was accused by the EFCC of receiving the N1.3 billion allegedly given to Governor Fayose for his election in June 2014.
The money, believed to have originated from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, under Sambo Dasuki, was reportedly routed through Senator Obanikoro.
