Court adjourns trial of Danish national accused of killing his wife, daughter

Justice Bolanle Okikiolu-Ighile of the Lagos State High Court on Friday sentenced a Dane, Peter Nielsen, to death for the murder of his Nigerian wife and daughter four years ago.

Nielsen, 54, was convicted on a two-count charge of murder brought against him by the Lagos State government.

He was sentenced to death by hanging on both charges.

The Lagos State government arraigned the Dane on June 23, 2018, for the murder of his wife, Zainab, and their three-year-old daughter, Petra.

Until her death, the wife was a popular singer.

The government accused Dane of smothering Zainab and Petra to death at 3:45 a.m. at No. 4, Flat 17, Bella Vista Tower, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The offence, according to the government, was contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under the same.
