A Rivers State High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, has ordered the cancellation of fresh congresses ordered by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) until the determination of the suit on notice.

Justice Ledam Nyordee gave the order in a suit brought by Ibrahim Umar and 22 others belonging to the Senator Magnus Abe faction of the APC in the state.

It would be recalled that the National Working Committee of the APC had last week inaugurated a 5-man Caretaker Committee led by Isaac Ogbogbula, empowering them to conduct congresses in the state.

The congresses, billed to start on the 17th of September, 2019 may have to wait a little longer, as Justice Nyordee adjourned further hearing in the substantive suit till September 17.

“An order is hereby made that all parties in the matter should maintain status quo in relation to the subject matter of the proceedings in this suit pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice,” the order read.

The crisis in Rivers APC has festered, costing the party the 2019 general elections in the state as it was barred from fielding candidates for governorship and legislative elections.
