Court to deliver judgement on Emefiele’s asset forfeiture case November 1

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has adjourned till November 1 ruling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) application for the final forfeiture of assets linked to a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
The assets in question are $2.045 million, seven landed properties, and shares in companies.
The judge will also rule on Emefiele’s application challenging the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case.
Justice Akintayo Aluko had on August 25 ordered the temporary forfeiture of the assets.
He also directed the EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order to enable anyone interested in the assets to explain why they should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
At Friday proceeding, the EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), moved an application for the final forfeiture of the money and share certificates.
He told the court that nobody had raised objections to the ruling.
The prosecutor added that Emefiele had also failed to show that he acquired the properties with his earnings from Zenith Bank and the CBN.
Oyedepo urged the court to order the final forfeiture of the assets after he adopted his written address dated August 29.
