Court to rule on EFCC documents in Babachir Lawal grass-cutting scandal

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Maitama has fixed October 16 for ruling on the admissibility of documents presented by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the trial of Babachir Lawal.

Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), was fired by Buhari in 2017 following his alleged involvement in a grass-cutting contract scandal.

On Tuesday, after listening to all the counsels in the matter, argued for and against the admissibility of the EFCC’s documents, Justice Jude Okeke, fixed October 16 to rule on the documents.

Justice Okeke also slated October 17 for the continuation of the prosecution‘s case.

The EFCC is prosecuting Lawal, his brother, Hamidu David Lawal, a director of Rholavision Engineering Limited; an employee of the company, Sulaiman Abubakar and the Managing Director of Josmon Technologies Limited, Apeh John Monday.

Also being prosecuted by the EFCC are two companies, Rholavision Engineering Limited and Josmon Technologies Limited.

The anti-graft agency levelled a 10-count charge bordering on conspiracy and fraud before the court.
