200,000 unemployed graduates have been hinted to start work by December 1st as part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s N-power project initiated to address the issue of unemployment in Nigeria.

These 200,000 graduates are those selected in the first batch of the Buhari administration’s plan to engage 500,000 jobless youths.

Mr. Laolu Akande, the vice- president’s spokesman said that the 200,000 were selected about two weeks ago, and their names have now been sent to state governments and the FCT who would deploy them to their specific programme assignments.

He further said the lucky selected names would also be published this week on the N-Power internet portal, and that participants would start receiving SMS messages informing them of their selection as from Monday November 21, 2016.

He said “Between now and the end of the month, the states and the FCT would be engaged in deploying the graduates who would formally start working and earning their stipends on December 1, 2016.

“Of the 200,000 first batch, 150,000 of them would teach, 30,000 would work in the Agric sector and 20,000 in Healthcare delivery covering the three specific programme assignments.

He further said the N-Power programmme is also an innovative means to enhance ailing public services in the area of basic education and primary healthcare. Also in the agric sector, it is aimed at achieving self-sufficiency by giving farmers relevant advisory services.

Laolu also assured those who applied for the programme but whose names are not selected yet to be patient as another waiting list will be out soon. He explained that they had to group them in batches based on the large number of applicants for the success of the program.

He equated the selection and mobilisation of N-power programme with the NYSC ways of mobilising corpers.

he also said, “As part of the programme, the participants would own tablets that will contain information necessary for their specific engagements, as well as information for their continuous training and developments.”

Most candidates selected are special candidates from the ministers, senators, state governors and their honourables. The real masses without people at the top who applied didn’t get their names selected. What a deceitful country!

200,000 jobless graduates: we should be ashamed to even say it that a country as wealthy as Nigeria should have such a number of unemployed youths. This is very ridiculous.

Kudos to the federal government, I was expecting this programme to commence next year. It’s good to know so many graduates will end the year happily and begin 2017 on a good note.
