Cousin of Nice attacker says he was very arrogant

Relatives and former neighbours of Nice attacker from his hometown in Tunisia have continued to express their shock, shame and dismay at the actions of Mohamed Bouhlel who drove a truck into a Bastille Day crowd in Nice, France on Thursday, killing at least 84 people.

According to Mohamed’s cousin Hamadi Bouhlel who still resides in Msaken, a commercial town in Tunis which has strong links to Nice through emigration, his relative was unusually normal yet arrogant.

“Mohamed was a very normal guy,” Hamadi said. “He did sports regularly, fitness training, and he was very arrogant. He didn’t talk with all the other young guys in the neighbourhood.”

His cousin also informed that 31-year-old Hamadi left in 2005, last returning for a sister’s wedding four years ago.
