COVID-19: Ebonyi records 2nd case as man who returned from Delta tests positive

Three days after its first record of COVID-19, Ebonyi State has recorded another case of the dreaded virus bring the total in the state to two.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike confirmed the development to newsmen in Abakaliki on Wednesday.

He said the second patient was a 27-year-old man, name not revealed, who returned to the state from Delta State with his seven-month-old pregnant wife and a maid.

The development is coming after the state Governor David Umahi on Sunday night announced that a 31-year-old man from Onicha Local Government Area of the state had contracted the virus.

Regretting the record of a second case of COVID-19 in the state, the Health Commissioner said:

“It’s quite unfortunate that we have recorded the second case of COVID-19. The patient was returning from Delta with his wife and maid. When they dropped in town in Abakaliki; they couldn’t get a means to a village in Izzi.

“The police encountered them and took them to the stadium. On Sunday they slept and on Monday after sorting out were done for those to go for testing, they went for COVID-19 test. The man tested positive while that of the wife is still inconclusive but that of the maid is negative. That of the wife is being repeated.

“The man is in good condition. He just had an intermittent headache which has subsided. Presently, they are in the isolation ward,” he said.
