In a bid to check the spread of COVID-19 in Enugu State, the state government Friday commenced the distribution of one million units of fabric face masks to residents of 17 local government areas of the state.

The state Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, who presented the items to the public at a forum in Enugu, said the gesture was a demonstration of the government’s proactive response since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

She said the face masks were produced by the state government through the use of fabrics supplied and sewed by indigenous traders and tailors as a means of socio-economic empowerment.

Ezeilo said: ““Let me reiterate that this face mask that we are being strongly persuaded to wear is a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designed to protect us and our dear ones and reduce our exposure to contagious and infectious health hazards such as COVID-19 and its harmful effects.
