COVID-19: Global cases hit 2.4 million

Health authorities in 211 countries and territories worldwide have reported more than 2.4 million coronavirus cases and 165,257 deaths since the pandemic broke out in December.

The United States, claims 759,659 of the worldwide figure with at least 40,679 covid-19 related deaths according to the John Hopkins University’s tally. There had been a Sunday spike by 24,498 new cases and 1,774 deaths.

India had also recorded its highest single day rise on Sunday with 1,553 new coronavirus cases bringing the total number of cases according to the country’s health ministry to 17,265, 543 deaths and 2,547 recoveries. The states of Maharashtra and Gujarat and the territory union of Delhi have been worst hit.

Meanwhile, the pandemic has spread through every other continent except Antarctica.
