Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has imposed a five-day dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state.

The development is part of the state government’s efforts to prevent the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic in the oil state.

According to a statement by the state’s Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mr Freston Akpor, the curfew was effective Sunday (today).

With the curfew, movement in the state is restricted between 7pm and 6am.

The statement said security operatives had been asked to ensure enforcement of the order.

It added, “This is part of proactive measures initiated to further reinforce the ban on social gatherings, particularly night clubs, beer palour, bar and nocturnal worship activities, to enhance social distancing.”
