COVID-19: Islamic leader arrested for flouting ban on gatherings

Men of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended one Imam of Ekakpamre, Mohammad Young Okotie for violating the social distancing and lockdown directives of the state government on Friday.

The cleric who was arrested in Ugheli South local government area of the state, led hundreds of Islamic worshippers in a Jum’at service.

While confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onowakpoyeye, stated that the offender was presently being held at the Otu-Jeremi Police Station awaiting prosecution.

“The State Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Mohammed-Inuwa, had ordered his arrest a few days ago”, the spokesperson said.
