Jigawa records 1 COVID-19 death, extends lockdown order to 3 more LGAs

A sudden surge in number of people dying mysteriously, has been recorded in Jigawa State, following on the heels of a similar occurrence in neighbouring Kano State.

In the last 10 days, no less than 100 persons were said to have died mysteriously in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

This was confirmed by the Special Assistant to the Local Council Chairman on Media, Sani Kakabori.

He told stated that the area record at least 10 deaths, especially those above the ages of fifty, everyday.

According to him, that had been the situation in past 10 days in the area.

Meanwhile, the state Chairman of
COVID-19 Task Force and Commissioner for Health, Dr Abba Zakari, in a statement, said government had set up a five man panel to look into the matter and recommend appropriate actions.

He said the committee had Dr Mahmud Abdulwahab as its chairman and Shehu Mohammad, Yusuf Hakimi, Shehu Sule, representative of World Health Organization (WHO) as members.

He added that the committee’s reports were being expected within three days.

There are speculations already, that COVID-19 could be the cause of the death surge.
