COVID-19: Nigerians not shot by security forces on streets starving to death at home —Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has decried the reported killings of Nigerians over COVID-19 lockdown by security forces.

He lamented that more citizens had been killed by security agencies, trying to enforce state and Federal Government lockdown order, than the coronavirus they want to protect them from contracting.

He said citizens who were not shot in streets were starving to death at home, a situation the former minister said, “can only happen in a zoo, a jungle or a lunatic asylum.”

He stated this in a tweet on his Twitter account- @realFFK, on Friday.

He wrote, “More Nigerians have been killed by security forces trying to enforce the ‘stay at home’ order than by Covid 19.

“Those that are not shot in the streets have no light and food and are starving to death at home.

“This can only happen in a zoo, a jungle or a lunatic asylum.”

A report by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday revealed that more Nigerians had been killed by security agencies during the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 than the virus itself.

As at the time that report was released 18 Nigerians had been killed by security agencies while coronavirus had killed 11.

After that report, three additional Nigerians had been killed in Delta, Abia and Anambra states by security agencies over the enforcement of stay-at-home order.

Currently, COVID-19 has killed 13 Nigerians while security agencies have reportedly killed 21.
