Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Monday shifted the commencement of the movement restriction in the state till Friday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Sunday ordered a total cessation of movement in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja as part of measures to check further spread of coronavirus in the country.

The restriction order takes effect at 11:00 p.m. Monday.

Abiodun, who made the announcement at the commissioning 128-bed Isolation Centre located at HID Awolowo Model College, Ikenne, said the shift in date would enable both the state and its people to prepare for the stimulus to cushion the effect of the lockdown on the masses.

The governor said he consulted the presidency before taking the decision.

He, however, added that the ban on inter- state and international borders would commence as scheduled.

Abiodun said: “After consultation with the presidency, the interstate and international borders will close tonight at 11.00 p.m. as directed by the President.

“However, the total lockdown of Ogun State will be effective from 11:00 p.m. on Friday, 3rd April, 2020. This is to enable us finalise the mechanisms for the distribution of relief materials and food items ahead of the total lockdown.“
