Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has signed a legislation on Wednesday, allowing the government to declare a state of emergency and enforce a partial lockdown to contain further spread of the virus as confirmed cases continue to climb.

According to the Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, a city wide quarantine and self isolation would begin on Monday with restrictions placed on movement except for those seeking emergency medical care or shopping for food and medicine.

Meanwhile, tech experts in Moscow have reportedly developed a QR code system as well as a smartphone app to monitor covid-19 patients in isolation as new cases hit 440 on Wednesday, bringing the country’s official number of cases to 2,777.
