COVID-19: UK death toll surpasses Italy’s to become highest in Europe
New figures have revealed that UK tops the chart as the country with the highest number of coronavirus deaths in Europe.
The country which has now recorded about 29,427 fatalities is some figures ahead of Italy’s 29,315.
UK’s Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, desctibed the situation as a “massive tragedy” the country had “never seen before…on this scale, in this way”.
Meanwhile, experts say it is still too early in the pandemic to begin such comparison, seeing also that UK’s population is 10% higher than Italy’s.
Raab stated:”I don’t think we will get a real verdict on how well countries have done until the pandemic is over, and particularly until we get comprehensive international data on all-cause mortality.”
