COVID-19: US records 4,491 deaths in 24 hours, as global infections reach 2.1m

Figures provided by the John Hopkins University have revealed that the death toll arising from COVID-19 infections in the United States of America has jumped by 4,491 deaths in 24 hours.

The numbers provided by the John Hopkins University now raises the overall death toll in the USA to a total of 32,917, making it the highest in the world followed by Italy with 22,170 victims dead.

More than 667,800 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the United States, which has witnessed a record number of deaths over the past two days with New York, the epicenter of the country’s COVID-19 epidemic, suffering more than 12,000 deaths alone.

According to the the John Hopkins University, the number of infections from the disease, has now reached 2,152,000 worldwide, with nearly 145,000 deaths, prompting some governments, including that of the United Kingdom and Canada to extend the lockdown.

This comes after the German center for disease control, Robert Koch Institute, announced 315 COVID-19 deaths within the past 24 hours in Germany. The highest the country has recorded so far.

Also, there has been a 2,866 rise in infection rate, bringing the total number of reported cases in Germany to 130,450 with 4,500 recoveries.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government has on Thursday dispatched 650,000 kits to India as the Indian ambassador to Beijing, Vikram Misri, confirmed in a tweet.
