EKITI 2018: Gov seat may tear PDP apart as Fayose dares Adeyeye, others to join APC

There is clear indication that the problem in Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may soon snowball into a dangerous crisis as the national publicity secretary of the party, Dayo Adeyeye, has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of plotting to sell the party in the state.

Since governor Fayose along with some stakeholders of the party in state adopted the deputy governor, Professor Kolapo Olusola, as the sole candidate of the PDP for the 2018 governorship poll, there has been crisis in the party.

Among those who have frowned at the development is the PDP spokesman and former Minister of Works Adeyeye. He claimed that the imposition of Olusola as the sole candidate of the party was nothing but part of the plot by Fayose to sell the party to the opposition in the state.

Adeyeye, who had described the action as a nullity and serious infraction of the party’s constitution and the electoral act 2010 as amended, alleged that Governor Fayose is working hand in hand with external forces to destroy the party.

He stated this when he spoke at a meeting with some members of the party at the headquarters of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) in Ado Ekiti, and vowed that the shenanigans, which according to him, Fayose contrived in order to arm-twist the party and to make them accept Olusola, will never work.

Adeyeye went further to assure his supporters that the endorsement of Olusola will not stand because the “National Working Committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi would conduct a free, fair poll to elect a credible candidate.”

Adeyeye’s comment came just as Governor Fayose has insisted that no one can threaten or blackmail him into rescinding the decision of the party in the state to adopt Olusola as the preferred candidate in the 2018 governorship election in the state.

Fayose, who added that he had no apology to offer anybody or group over the matter argued, “To start with, as a party member and a citizen of Nigeria, I reserve the rights to support any candidate for any elective post and even vote same in an election.”

Some political pundits are already seeing the festering problem in Ekiti PDP as an opportunity the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state may latch on to wrestle power from the grips of the PDP.

Already, some members of APC are calling on Adeyeye and others who feel aggrieved with the development in the PDP to defect to APC to continue their governorship aspiration.
