Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is “a big role model”of his and is happy to have swapped shirts with the Portuguese.
It was Ronaldo rescued Real Madrid with a 43rd-minute penalty after they trailed 1-0 to Spurs in a Champions League clash at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night.
Kane, who has previously said he wants to emulate Ronaldo, was quoted by the Mirror to have said, “I asked for his shirt at the end.
“He was a big role model of mine growing up. It’s a nice shirt to get. I will frame it. I gave him my shirt. I don’t know what he’ll do with it!”
Spurs and Real, locked on seven points at the top of Group H, will meet again at Wembley, but Kane has praised their performance in Madrid.
“It was a great night for us. One we can be proud of — the fans can be proud of. The whole club can be proud.
“It was a big statement. A few years ago we were playing in the Europa League, and to come here to the Bernabeu and put in a performance like that — we drew and maybe could have won — shows what kind of team we are.
Real boss Zinedine Zidane hailed Kane as a ‘complete’ player before the game, and about that, Kane said, “Zidane’s praise? I try to use that as positives. I’ve said before that positive comments help a striker, I try to use it as motivation.”
Both sides meet again on November 1st at Wembley.
