CIVIL/PUBLIC servants in Cross River State are at daggers drawn with the state government over a planned compulsory deduction of N25, 200 – N55,456 from their salaries depending on the classification of workers for the purchase of Biofuel Cookers and Solar Lamps.

Besides unverified claim that fumes emitting from the biofuel cooker was unsafe, the aggrieved workers have threatened to use any legal means against the state government if it goes ahead to deduct any amount by force from their salaries without their authority.

Vanguard learnt that the Commissioner, Ministry of Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Alice Ekwu, May 19, 2017, forwarded a proposal by Alvila to the governor seeking approval for the undertaking.

Her most recent request for approval of the contract dispatched to the Chief of Staff to the Governor was dated September 4, 2018
