Crystal Palace end Man City's winning run

Manchester City were stunned by Crystal Palace on Sunday as the Eagles ended their 18-game Premier League winning run by a goalless draw at Selhust Park.

It would have been a more disappointing day for Pep Guardiola’s side had the home team not missed an injury-time penalty, which was saved by goalkeeper Ederson.

The keeper saved Luka Milivojevic’s spot-kick after substitute Raheem Sterling had fouled Wilfried Zaha in the box in the 92nd minute.

Palace thus missed out on the chance to become the first team to beat City in the league this season, as they share points to put City 14 points clear at the top of the table.

It is the biggest gap between the leaders and the rest of the teams at this stage of the season in the history of the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus was injured and taken off during the first half and Kevin de Bruyne also stretchered off after a heavy tackle in the final minute, leaving City with only one fit senior striker in Sergio Aguero as they continue in their hunt for the title.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said “The second half was a little bit better than the first, we had a little problems but in the end Ederson helped us to get a point. We have to focus. When we win, we focus on the next one, when we don’t win, we have to focus on the next one.”

Chelsea are second and Manchester United are third, and the New Year begins with a hope of possibly catching up with their rivals this season.
