2019 POLLS: Opposition parties to reveal names of Buhari associates causing trouble

Opposition political parties under the aegis of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) said the Federal Government has realised its case against suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, has no merit.

It said the finding is the reason government is allegedly haunting the CJN’s domestic staff including the recent arrest of his driver by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Federal Government of Nigeria is prosecuting Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over alleged asset declaration offences.

But CUPP first national spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, said in a statement that the EFCC decision to arrest the driver, Emmanuel Essien, was meant to manufacture fresh evidence against the CJN as government allegedly has seen that the case it instituted against him “at the Code of Conduct Tribunal did not have merit.”

Noting that the arrest was part of government’s fresh offensive against Onnoghen, Ugochinye said the strategy was meant to ensure that Onnoghen resigned so that the government and the ruling party would take over the apex court.

He then urged President Buhari to order the EFCC to desist from harassing Onnoghen’s domestic workers in its efforts to nail the suspended CJN .
