Curfew imposed in Taraba following clashes between APC and PDP supporters

The Taraba state government on Thursday announced the imposition of a dusk- -till-dawn curfew on Wukari town after invasion of the town by political thugs.

Governor, Mr. Darius Ishaku, through a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan-Abu, said the curfew would last from 6am to 6pm.

The statement explains that clash by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) necessitated the curfew.

“The attack was between thugs of APC and its aggrieved members of United Democratic Party.

“The governor wishes to advise politicians to exercise restraint as they move about with their campaign.”

Responding to the allegations, the APC in the state through its spokesman, Aaron Arithmas, alleged that the governor and the PDP were the real masterminds behind the attack on APC members.

He said, “Our governorship candidate, Sani Abubakar Danladi, has just escaped assassination attempt in Wukari town.

“We were negotiating the last roundabout in Wukari town on our way to Ibi when youths in Wukari, suspected to be loyal to PDP, attacked our convoy.

“The youths in their numbers who barricaded the Ibi roundabout area of Wukari where our convoy was heading were armed with dangerous weapons, opened fire on the convoy.

“I can not ascertained the casualty figures now, but some vehicles have been burnt and tension is still high,” he said.
